What is a Text Diff Checker?
A **Diff Checker** (short for "Difference Checker") is a digital tool used to compare two versions of a text file, code snippet, or document to identify what has changed between them. It visualizes the **additions**, **deletions**, and **modifications** using color-coding (typically green for added text and red for removed text).
Who Needs a Comparison Tool?
- Developers: To compare code versions, debug errors, or check merge conflicts in files like JSON, XML, or PHP.
- Writers & Editors: To see what changes an editor made to a draft or to check for accidental deletions in long articles.
- Legal Professionals: To compare two versions of a contract or agreement to ensure no unauthorized clauses were added or removed.
- Students: To check for plagiarism or compare their notes against a peer's version.
How to Read the Results
Our tool provides two ways to view differences:
1. Side-by-Side (Split View)
This is the default mode. It places the original text on the left and the modified text on the right.
- Red Highlight: Indicates text that exists in the original but was deleted in the new version.
- Green Highlight: Indicates text that is new in the modified version.
2. Inline (Unified View)
This merges both texts into a single document flow. It shows the document from top to bottom, crossing out deleted words and underlining/highlighting added words immediately after. This is often preferred for proofreading articles.
Why Use This Tool?
While tools like MS Word have "Track Changes," they are heavy and require software installation. Our online Text Diff Checker is:
- Fast: Runs instantly in your browser.
- Private: Comparison happens on your device (Client-Side). No data is sent to our server.
- Format Agnostic: Works with plain text, code, logs, CSVs, and more.
